Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Suppose you were hovering above Tiananmen Square in a helium-filled balloon, like the one operating in New York's Central Park these days. The space below would've looked like a massive flower patch.
You would've seen a kaleidoscope of colors. Reds, blues, greens, yellows, purples, you name it. What imagination envisions as flowers were, in actuality, umbrellas, or yusan, as the locals say.
One was pink with bunny rabbits. Another was blue with pink hearts. My favorite was black with white lettering that read The China Great Wall Aluminum Corporation,'' which, it's safe to say, wasn't around when work began on that humdinger of a construction project.
Bicycle riders clutched the handlebar in one hand and their umbrella in the other.
And it wasn't even raining
